Have you ever had a regretful experience with a contractor who did work on your home? Hopefully not—but those of you who have, know that it is very upsetting. Here are a few tips on how to find the right roofing contractor for your home:Roofer

  1. License and Insurance- Always make sure that the company you’re working with is licensed and insured. A reputable company will provide proof of license and insurance documents upon request. It is equally important that all of these are up to date. For example, our documents are posted here on our website for you to view.
  2. Pricing- Don’t choose your contractor just because the price is unbeatable. Any company that has overhead and proper insurance, has to price accordingly to cover these costs. You get what you pay for and you may end up paying more later if the job isn’t done correctly.
  3. Job Details- Always make sure that you receive a written estimate before work is started. The estimate should list all job details and pricing for you to sign off on. At ONEWAY ROOFING, every customer receives a FREE estimate.
  4. Research- Always do your research when choosing a Roofer. Make sure they have multiple worthy reviews and have satisfactory ratings with the Better Business Bureau.

Your money and time is valuable, so don’t give it to a company who doesn’t think so.

It’s already that time of year again… Welcome to fall! Besides the joy this season brings, Fall is also an important time for roof maintenance. Here are some tips that you may findunnamed helpful in the upkeep of your roof.

  1. Clean Gutters– Gutter cleaning is a must, especially this time of year. It’s important to keep the debris cleared out of your gutters to ensure that water can flow through them properly. Water that continuously flows onto your roof can cause mold, cracking and other more extensive damage to both your gutters and the roof itself.
  2. Trim Trees– If your trees are trimmed back, less rubbish will fall onto your roof. Too many leaves and branches on your roof can cause moisture buildup which can lead to more roof related issues like mold.
  3. Gutter Guards– Gutter Guards are caps that  keep debris from getting in. They go over the gutters so that only water can enter. This option will save you a lot of time and possibly money in the long run.
  4. Assess Needed Repairs– If your gutters are cracked or loose, it is important to get these fixed to ensure that they are working properly. When the water does not flow correctly, it will run down the side of your home, eventually leaving unsightly staining.playing in leaves

Remember to always practice safety when you are performing tasks on or near your roof. Feel free to contact ONEWAY ROOFING with any questions or concerns about your roof. Thanks for reading and have a wonderful season!

As you may have heard us say plenty of times, your roof is by far one of your most important aspects to your home– so we will continue to educate you on how to take care of it. No one likes spending money and that’s a great reason to take good care of your roof. You don’t want to pay for extra damage in the long run. That being said, we would like to bring up a new subject that you Roofermay have thought about yourself. Can you repair your own roof? We highly advise you not to and here’s why!

We’ll start out by mentioning that roofing is intense, hot and hard work. But more important than the hard labor, you might even damage your roof further. If you don’t know what you’re doing, just walking on your roof can cause damage to shingles or tiles. If you don’t take things like proper ventilation into consideration, you can cause your roof to start leaking. When your roof doesn’t have the right ventilation, this cause your attic to draw in moisture.

DangerAlso, how do you know if your roof doesn’t have more extensive damage than you think? Did you know that by the time you actually notice the leaking on your ceiling, the damage could be far worse than you think. If this isn’t fixed the right way, you could end up having to pay a roofer down the road for way more than you would have if you would’ve brought the smaller leak to their attention.

Our roofers wear special equipment while they work to ensure their safety. If you are repairing your roof without this safety gear, then you are in danger. This could raise the price that you originally intended to pay as well. We know that you don’t have any intentions of attending the ER anytime in the near future over a roof repair.

Our point is, if you try to repair your roof yourself then it can most definitely cause more damage and is hazardous. If you need your roof repaired then give an experienced roofing company a call and ask for an estimate. Here at ONEWAY, they’re free for your convenience!

Florida’s climate is different from most states. In this season we are feeling the full effects of Florida’s hot and humid weather. One of our goals as Florida residents is to make sure that our home living is not affected by it. We would like to give you some insite on how these different roofing materials stand up to each other, while keeping our climate in mind.dreamstime_xl_7355225

Shingles are one of the most common types of roofing material. About 80% of the residential roofs here in america, are covered with them. They are inexpensive and add an attractive appearance to a home, which is a great combination. Asphalt shingles contain minerals that resist against algae and other staining. Over time these minerals can wear away but there is an option to have your roof clean by a professional. Shingles are a good fire resisting material with a moderate wind resistance. These type of roofs typically last around 15 to 20 years.

Concrete tiles are another type of roofing material that appeal to many homeowners.  They come in a wide variety of colors and can be made to resemble other tiles like clay or slate. This is great since it makes the reroofing process cheaper! These type of roofs can last around 25 to 30 years if they are taken care of properly. They generally require low maintenance but walking on a tile roof the right way is vital since the tiles havdreamstime_xl_5588002e the potential to crack. Just like shingles, tiles are also fire resistant and do great in warmer climates like ours. In colder climates the tiles are susceptible to shattering due to the freezing and thawing cycles.

Another type of material used for roofs is metal, which can be made to resemble other materials as well. Metal roofs have a good resistance to both fire and wind which contributes to their lifespan of up to 50 years! This material also does well with both low and steep roofs whereas the other types of roofing material are better for a steeper sloped roof. Another upside to using metal is that it absorbs little heat (about a third less than asphalt). This is great for keeping your cooling costs down. Metal is on the more expensive side of the spectrum compared to other roofing materials. However, with the lower maintenance, high resistance to damage, and long lifespan — the cost seems to pay off in the long run!

Summer FamilyWelcome to summer—Time for fun in the sun!!! We love it too, but it does have its downsides. Here in Florida, summer is also our rainy season. With all of the rain heading our way, inspecting your home to prevent damage is a must! It’s not just the moisture we’re worried about. Yes you guessed it… It’s also time for those pesky insects to start making their way into our homes. Here are some easy things to check off your list to ensure that your home is summer ready!

1. Inspect wood structures– Be sure to inspect all wooden structures of your home. This includes the inside and outside of your house. Check for any rotting or damaged wood. Anything of this nature should be assessed quickly so that the damages do not worsen.

2. Check for termites– Termites can cause major damage before you even realize you have them. However,  if you are annually checking for them, then you should be able to prevent these suckers from doing any major damage. They eat wood from the inside out, so it is hard to detect them unless you know what to look for. Check your window sills for small buncheGuy Caulkings of them and look around for encrusted mud tubes or dirt in or around small holes and cracks.

3. Prepare for hurricanes– We haven’t had a real hurricane in a while, but this does not predict that we won’t experience any in the near future. Check your home’s hurricane resistant features including things like shutters and windows. Be sure to caulk and weatherstrip windows and doors. Don’t forget to trim any tree limbs that are capable of falling onto your roof.

4. Pest control– If you were worried about pests getting in, well now is the time for them to do so. Make sure you are ahead of them by spraying inside and outside. Sealing your windows and doors will also help with this issue.

Thank you for reading and have a wonderful season!

Your roof is one of the most important pieces of your home and damages to it can cause everything under it to suffer. We would like to help you maintain its foundation and durability by introducing you to a process called Roof Coating!

roof-coating

In Florida, your roof takes on a ton because of the harsh sunlight and almost constant rain. The sunlight exposure causes your roof to become oxidized and results in chemical breakdown which weakens the roof. Rain and moisture can also cause corrosion over time.109705b

Roof Coating can be done at anytime and can transform an old roof into a newer looking roof for a smaller cost. With the cost being reasonable for this application, the cost for your electric bill in the summer will reduce itself as well. The coating is designed to allow your roof to reflect more of the harmful rays rather than absorbing the heat, causing your a/c to put out less energy. This is a second layer that will act both as ultra violet and water proof.

For your advantage, we use Roof Masters of Palm Beach for this process. Roof Masters is a Chemical Roof and Pressure Cleaning business that serves areas of Palm Beach and Martin Counties. They are the oldest Chem-Wash company in the southeast and have been in business since 1998 with 18 years of experience. Here at ONEWAY ROOFING we are dedicated to serving our customers and we would only recommend the best.

Tile Roof Replacement February 2016

Are you due for a roof replacement but unsure about what questions to ask? We understand that you expect your new roof to be completed at the highest of standards. When you hire a roofer it is essential to ask specific questions to ensure that your new roof is completed to be durable and longlasting. Here are seven necessary questions to ask that will guarantee you have selected the ideal roofing company.7 Questions You Should Ask Your Roofer

  • Are you licensed? – Always be sure that the roofer you are working with has a license that is up to date. Each company should have their license number handy for customers if desired. For example, our license number is CCC1329311. Any other roofing company should have a similar format.
  • Do you have workman’s comp insurance? – Workman’s compensation insurance covers the company’s employees. If an employee is hurt on a jobsite this comes into play. Some companies will take their chances with this because of the high prices. It is important to avoid companies that do this. An injured employee can potentially sue a homeowner if they do not have this protection. You can view a copy of our workman’s compensation insurance on our website at the following link: http://onewayroof.com/aboutus/licensed-and-insured/
  • Do you have general liability insurance? – General liability insurance covers your property. If there is major accident that causes damage to your home and the company does not have general liability insurance, then you are simply responsible for all damages. ONEWAY ROOFING does carry GL insurance and you can view our certificate at the link above.
  • Do you provide a written estimate? Is it important to be given a detailed estimate before signing a contract for your roof. This estimate should include the cost of anything that could arise in the process of removing the original roof and replacing it with the new one. At ONERoofer PhotoWAY, each customer is given a FREE written estimate that includes the details and total price for their new roof.
  • Will you remove my old roof? – Without the removal of the old roofing materials, the condition underneath is left unknown. By overlaying an old roof with new roofing materials, this serves as a temporary fix and can be cheaper. However, this can be detrimental later on. The plywood underneath could potentially contain moisture. Over time this moisture leads to excess mold and even termites that can destroy the entire structure of your roof. For these reasons, we always remove old materials before putting on a new roof.
  • What will you do in the case of inclimate weather during a job? – Especially in a place like Florida where it rains a lot, we have to make sure that we are extra aware. It is crucial that moisture stays away while your roof is in the process of being replaced. If it does happen to rain, our roofers use tarps to cover any and all exposed sections of the roof.
  • What is the cost of plywood? – You may have noticed that moisture is a main issue, especially in Florida. If pieces of plywood are rotten, the company should replace them and ensure that you have a sound decking before moving forward in the process. If we find rotten or moldy pieces of plywood, we remove and replace up to 5 sheets and any additional are $75 per sheet. This includes labor costs, material fees, waste fees, and tearing off fees.
