Roof Repair

Have you ever had a regretful experience with a contractor who did work on your home? Hopefully not—but those of you who have, know that it is very upsetting. Here are a few tips on how to find the right roofing contractor for your home:Roofer

  1. License and Insurance- Always make sure that the company you’re working with is licensed and insured. A reputable company will provide proof of license and insurance documents upon request. It is equally important that all of these are up to date. For example, our documents are posted here on our website for you to view.
  2. Pricing- Don’t choose your contractor just because the price is unbeatable. Any company that has overhead and proper insurance, has to price accordingly to cover these costs. You get what you pay for and you may end up paying more later if the job isn’t done correctly.
  3. Job Details- Always make sure that you receive a written estimate before work is started. The estimate should list all job details and pricing for you to sign off on. At ONEWAY ROOFING, every customer receives a FREE estimate.
  4. Research- Always do your research when choosing a Roofer. Make sure they have multiple worthy reviews and have satisfactory ratings with the Better Business Bureau.

Your money and time is valuable, so don’t give it to a company who doesn’t think so.

Should Hurricane Matthew hit Palm Beach, then ONEWAY ROOFING should be your first call. Here is why:

1. We need to install a tarp. Your roof is the most important part of your home. It protects your family, your home structure, your furniture, and all your valuables. Installing a tarp is the first step of protection after the storm.

2. Your roof needs an inspection immediately following a storm. Whether Hurricane Matthew decides to hit head-on or not, the strong winds can cause significant damage to your roof.

3. You need to report any damage to your insurance carrier immediately following an inspection. The good news is…

4. We are insurance experts. Our owners, Mike Poole and Tony Lanzone, came to South Florida after Hurricane Charlie. They were originally “storm chasers” from the Midwest who wanted to help in the storm crisis of 2004. Hurricane Charlie was followed by Francis and Gene. Do you remember the damage those CAT 2 hurricanes caused back then? Mike and Tony have been handling insurance claims for roofing damage for over twenty years. Mike fell in love with beautiful Palm Beach and refused to go back to the Midwest. So, he moved his family and launched ONEWAY ROOFING.

5. Both Mike and Tony are passionate about helping families in their time of need and have fully trained their staff to handle crisis situations when it comes to the most important part of a home: the roof.

Hurricane Preparation Checklist

As you may have heard us say plenty of times, your roof is by far one of your most important aspects to your home– so we will continue to educate you on how to take care of it. No one likes spending money and that’s a great reason to take good care of your roof. You don’t want to pay for extra damage in the long run. That being said, we would like to bring up a new subject that you Roofermay have thought about yourself. Can you repair your own roof? We highly advise you not to and here’s why!

We’ll start out by mentioning that roofing is intense, hot and hard work. But more important than the hard labor, you might even damage your roof further. If you don’t know what you’re doing, just walking on your roof can cause damage to shingles or tiles. If you don’t take things like proper ventilation into consideration, you can cause your roof to start leaking. When your roof doesn’t have the right ventilation, this cause your attic to draw in moisture.

DangerAlso, how do you know if your roof doesn’t have more extensive damage than you think? Did you know that by the time you actually notice the leaking on your ceiling, the damage could be far worse than you think. If this isn’t fixed the right way, you could end up having to pay a roofer down the road for way more than you would have if you would’ve brought the smaller leak to their attention.

Our roofers wear special equipment while they work to ensure their safety. If you are repairing your roof without this safety gear, then you are in danger. This could raise the price that you originally intended to pay as well. We know that you don’t have any intentions of attending the ER anytime in the near future over a roof repair.

Our point is, if you try to repair your roof yourself then it can most definitely cause more damage and is hazardous. If you need your roof repaired then give an experienced roofing company a call and ask for an estimate. Here at ONEWAY, they’re free for your convenience!

Layover Vs. Recover Roof

There are no tags 0 comments

There are several options when purchasing a new roof, two of which being a Recover or a Layover. Recover is another name for Roof replacement or Reroof, while Layover or Overlay are common names for placing new material over old roofing material.  It can be confusing as to what to choose. We understand you want to choose the best optimike roof photoon for your family as well as getting the most out of your money. I would like to explain the pros and cons of a Recover versus an Overlay.

First and foremost, tearing off your old roof and replacing it is definitely choosing the safer option. Your roof deck can  be thoroughly inspected and any damaged sections can be replaced. When laying over your roof, you cannot examine the decking to determine if there are any repairs needed. If you do not get to the sheathing, you will not know if you have the appropriate underlayment. The best case scenario for a Layover is when there are no previous or existing leaks. However, if you do Layover, you cannot install a water-leak barrier since it has to adhere directly to the wood decking.

One of the main pros to Laying over your roof is saving money. But because of the amount of work, any savings only equals out to about 25% compared to purchasing a new roof. Shingles most likely will not last long and the job could end up costing more in the long run. However, if you are laying over shingles with a metal roof and there is no underlying damage, this could be a good option. Metal roofs save energy and last longer since they stand up to harsh weather conditions. Metal roofs are typically more expensive due to their durability but this option will still be cheaper since there is no tear off expense. Some Layover roofs are miami-dade code approved depending on conditions and materials. However, every case is different.

Whatever your decision may be, make sure that you have any underlying problems fixed first before installing any new roof. Your roof is the most important part of your home since it protects everything under it including you and your family.

We understand you might be holding off on your roof replacement because you are unsure about what the process entails. Allow us at ONEWAY ROOFING to give you some information on our process to comfort you in moving forward with your roof replacement.

First and foremost we will have one of our expert Project Estimators schedule an appointment to to properly assess your situation as each presents its own challenges.  After assessing the project and all its facets our Project Estimator will determine the cost of your project and present you with an estimate absolutely free of charge. When the replacement is underway our first step is to file for a permit with the corresponding municipality. Once the permit is received, the real work begins.

We start by removing old roofing material. All old shingles, tiles, and underlayment material must be completely removed in order to inspect the wood decking. Any soft, wet or rotten wood needs to be replaced to ensure a strong substrate for your roof.

ONEWAY ROOFING does both commercial and residential roof replacements.

ONEWAY ROOFING does both commercial and residential roof replacements.

Wood sheathing also needs to be inspected to assure that it is attached to the roof rafters in the correct way. The crew will check for missing nails during the removal of old material.

The next step in the process is called drip edge installation. Drip edge is a piece of metal bent at 90 degrees to prevent rain from getting underneath roofing material. After the wood decking is prepared we install drip edge at all edges of the roof.

Moving forward, we start with the water shield installation process. This is a roofing underlayment that sticks to the wood decking to prevent any water leaks. It must be installed at the bottom of the roof and at all roof penetrations such as chimneys, pipe flanges, roof connections, etc.)

After the underlayment process, the rest of the roof will be covered with roofing felt. Roofing felt also sticks to the wood and prevents water leakage.

When the above steps are completed and the base is ready, it is time to start laying out the new roof material.

After the roof is completed, our crew will clean the jobsite thoroughly, leaving nothing but a new and beautiful roof. Last, but not least,  each roof replacement includes a final detailed inspection to ensure your safety and satisfaction.

Tile Roof Repairs

There are no tags 0 comments

Tile roofs are known for their longevity and beauty. They are extremely durable and are 100% recyclable. They allow for great water flow and protect the underlayment of the roof very well. As 1great as tile roofs can be, they can still suffer damage at some point in their lifetime. If there are cracks in any tiles on this type of roof, it is best to repair them and not replace them.

Tile replacement raises the issue of color matching. Over time roofing tiles can fade in color from the sunlight. It is best to keep the original tiles and have them repaired if possible because it will be difficult to match the exact color. If this is not a possibility, there is another option. During the repair process it is possible to take tiles from a less visible area of the roof and replace those with new tiles instead. This will keep your roof looking as good as new!

Additionally, having your roof repaired or replaced can be a little noisy and messy. It is best to get it done as fast as possible so that we can help maintain your peace and quiet.

Advantages of Asphalt Shingles

There are no tags 0 comments

Replacing your roof can be quite expensive. However, there are cheaper but still durable options like Asphalt Shingles. Shingles are one of the most inexpensive roofing materials and they come in a wide variety of colors and textures.

GAF Shingles

Shingles are appropriate for any style home, especially those with steep-sloped roofs. While Shingles can be blown off or damaged by high winds, they are easy to install or repair since they can be effortlessly cut and fit into place. For this reason, Asphalt Shingles are one of the most widely used roofing materials in North America. Shingles are very low maintenance and can be walked on during inspections or repair work. Nowadays, Shingles can even be made to withstand mold and mildew!

Asphalt Shingles will provide your home with at least 20 years of protection for a minor cost. Value is the primary advantage of this roofing material, which explains its popularity.
